Sagrantino

Sagrantino is a native of Umbria Italian grape variety, used in the production of the best wines of the region.
It grows mainly in areas surrounding the town of Montefalco, with only 670 hectares devoted to crop production operated from 350 producers of some grape. The bottlers are 89th The production area covers the entire territory of the commune of Montefalco and the municipality of Bevagna, Gualdo Cattaneo, Giano Castel Ritaldi and all sites of Umbria in Perugia.
The wine that it produces is very popular in the world, famous for its high intensity, concentration and ability of aging thanks to 'high polyphenolic content. It is protected by trademark DOCG since 1992.
The origins of the grape are still debated, but one theory considers accredited from Greece to Italy and imported by Byzantine monks.
