Assisi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Assisi (26,946 inhabitants is a city in the province of Perugia in Umbria, situated on the western flank
of Mount Subasio. Is known for being the city where they were born, lived and died in St. Francis
patron saint of Italy and St. Clare.

«Intra Tupino e l'acqua che discende
del colle eletto dal beato Ubaldo,
fertile costa d'alto monte pende,
onde Perugia sente freddo e caldo

(Dante Alighieri, Paradiso XI)

Know, dearest, that the Lord has blessed me the grace to tell me that is rapidly approaching the end of my life. So if you see me still alive, upon receiving this letter, quick to come to Santa Maria degli Angeli. Because if it comes later than Saturday, I see you live. And bring a cloth to wrap color heron  my body and candles for burial. At the end of the letter, then expressed a wish: "Please also bring those sweet, that you were used to give me when I found ill in Rome. " Just as the brothers were looking for someone who brought the letter to Rome, Francesco sensed Jacopo was already going to him. Immediately after, they heard a knock at the door of the tiny hut adjacent to the chapel, which served as a nursing ... She had arrived with his children. For her, the Porziuncola, was taken from the enclosure, which had never been deleted nemmanco for Clare. Jacopo had brought everything Francis wanted, including cakes, made with almonds, sugar and other ingredients, then known in Rome and its surroundings, with the name and someone mortarioli wanted to identify as a variant - but perhaps more to the similarity of the name - with nostrani "Mostaccioli". the fortress of Assisi This cake gets its name from the shape: the word "rock" in local dialect, means "round."
