The sanctuary of the Madonna della Stella is a Catholic place of worship located in the town of Montefalco (PG), the name also indicates the homonymous village in the municipality (232 m asl, 96 inhabitants according to Istat, 2001). 
The small village is located halfway between Montefalco and Spoleto, in the middle of the plain spoletinaIl sanctuary, opened in 1884, is dedicated to Maria Auxilium Christianorum. The architect Giovanni Santini Umbertidesi designed a church in neoclassical style, with baroque features, especially in the bell tower dome. The interior, 800 meters of a Latin cross, is covered with travertine marmoridea, a kind of plaster with marble appearance. Above the altar is the fresco, considered miraculous, the ancient church dating back to the sixteenth century and is the work of Paul Bontulli from Percanestro .. 

 

History 

In the Middle Ages arose in the present place a small church dedicated to St. Bartholomew the Apostle, which now remains only a fresco transferred to the new santuario.Nel 1862, the small Righetto Cionco Henry, son of a modest peasant family in the place, reported to have witnessed repeatedly the apparitions of the Virgin Mary, who smiled at him and called him from the picture of the old chiesa.Ben soon the news spread, even exceeding the regional boundaries, especially when they were reported the first evidence of graces and miracles received by the faithful who attending more and more so the chiesa.Si proceeded to build a new, larger sanctuary, whose work was funded by grants of the faithful. Since the foundation, the church is governed and administered by the Passionist Fathers.
